The band’s performance on January 28, 2023, in Xavier’s intimate Gallagher Hall was special for Mambo Combo. Xavier University Music Series director Polina Bespalko-Ellerhorst had originally put us in the mix for her 2021 series after having heard us at one of our performances around the region. We were excited to be booked on this distinguished series, which is heavily weighted with internationally known performers. Covid brought several postponements, but Ms. Bespalko-Ellerhorst kept the faith. I wanted to showcase the band’s range and brought aboard two performers whose names are synonymous with Latin music in Cincinnati, timbalero Nick Radina, who co-founded the long-running Salsa on the Square series, along with its longtime host, vocalist Tina DeAlderete. After hearing the energy of the band and the audience captured on the concert recording, we knew we wanted to release it as a CD. We hope you’ll be thrilled with it too.
